Around Town with Amachi…

Amachi staff have been on the move— recently hosting events for mentors, recruiting new volunteers, and attending the National Mentoring Summit in Washington D.C.

WKYT-TV’s Out and About with DeAnn Stephens recently caught up with Amachi Program Director Maggie Middleton, Kelly Ansted, our volunteer recruiter and Destini Engle, match specialist, to discuss mentoring. They were featured along with one of our mentors, Scott Morgan, and his hand-selected match, KJ, (pictured above) prior to Amachi’s bowling outing at Collins Bowling. The event was a great time and allowed for quality fun and healthy competition for all participants. We are so thankful for the 70 people who joined us for the event!

In January we celebrated National Mentoring Month. This month-long celebration of our volunteer mentors culminated in an evening together hosted by Red State BBQ, where all kids were given a free meal and mentors received a generous discount on delicious barbecue! Thank you to Red State BBQ!

On February 10th, a local coffee shop, A Cup of Commonwealth featured Amachi as its non-profit of the month. Ten percent of all sales that day benefitted our program and we were able to share our story with coffee drinkers who visited. We are so thankful for the generous hearts at COCW!

Look for us next at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, March 4 from 1:00–5:00. Activities for mentors and mentees will include art projects, storytime (of course), raffles and more! Any purchases made that day using our special voucher will result in 10% of the sale going to the Amachi program. Online sales are included. Find out more on our Facebook page @ Amachi Central KY.
