Making Progress at Woodhill Community Center

The excitement is building as progress continues on the Woodhill Community Center! Located at 422 Codell Drive, the center is ideally situated for children in the neighborhood to access easily.

The physical structure will be presented by the MAP Foundation, in partnership with Valvoline and many other generous donors. Programming will be provided by our Urban Impact staff and volunteers. Our work throughout the city in conjunction with our partners and volunteers will still continue. For instance, the nine unique sites hosting Read to Succeed for elementary aged children will go on as usual. They, along with their volunteers and students, will have access to the Woodhill Center as an enhancement to existing programs if desired. Woodhill will represent an additional site for Read to Succeed and other programming in our Family of Ministries.

Four partner sites hosting The Academy after-school programs will also likely continue to love and serve kids as they now do. They may choose to conduct some of their work on-site at Woodhill. These programs currently run week-in, week-out, not reliant upon our staff presence, but rather in the capable hands of LLF partners and a multitude of committed volunteers. We appreciate their awesome commitment to kids, their neighborhoods, and this city!

Our focus on the Woodhill neighborhood is not accidental, but more likely orchestrated by God long before we knew we’d have a building there. Our in-school mentoring at nearby Breckinridge Elementary dates back to 2007. Over 87 percent of students there qualify for free or reduced lunch and a large population of immigrants and refugee families live nearby. Twenty-four languages are spoken at the school! Woodhill is an area that has seen crime and poverty increase and along with that, a lack of viable options for children and youth to participate in positive life-development activities. The Woodhill Community Center will change that.

Your prayers, volunteer help and financial support are all needed. Contact our office at 859-277-3087 to find out how you can be a part of the excitement!
