Building relationships with those who are often ignored.

The New Life Day Center provides a safe place for Lexington's poor and homeless.

How We Operate

Our goal is simple: to provide a safe place where the poor and homeless can go during daytime hours and begin taking the steps they need to get off the streets and become self-sufficient members of our community.

New Life Day Center is not only a place of refuge for people seeking relief from the summer heat or frigid cold; it is also a welcoming place for those who truly want help. Trained volunteer Life Coaches work with guests to help them complete a needs assessment and develop an individual case plan that identifies their personal goals and the steps they need to take to reach their goals.

Additionally, New Life helps guests access services that will meet their identified needs and improve their well-being.  The Life Coaches educate guests about the services available to them in the community and how to access these services, help them set up appointments and fill out any necessary paperwork, and arrange transportation to agencies that are not easily accessible by public transportation. By providing accurate information, timely referrals and reliable transportation, New Life empowers homeless men and women to improve their standard of living.

Perhaps most significantly, New Life provides a place for volunteers from local churches to build relationships with people who are so often ignored and isolated.  Volunteers serve as Life Coaches and also greet guests, answer questions and arrange transportation to appointments.  As volunteers invest in the lives of the homeless, they offer the encouragement, advocacy and support guests need as they begin taking steps toward positive change.

New Life is supported by a coalition of local ministries to the poor, which includes Lexington Rescue Mission, Lighthouse Ministries, the Resource Office for Social Ministries and The Salvation Army. By providing a centrally-located place to coordinate the efforts of these homeless service providers, New Life helps ensure the services provided in our community are effectively meeting the needs of the homeless, identify any gaps in services, and address them in a coordinated effort.
