Volunteer Opportunities

Program: Read to Succeed

Opportunity: Read to Succeed is an after school reading tutoring program which pairs children in need of reading help with caring adult or teenage readers. Various partner sites meet in churches throughout the Lexington area.

Responsibilities: Volunteers meet one-on-one with a child, then participate in Club Time with the entire group.

Weekly Time Commitment: One hour per week, afternoons or evenings, depending on site

Length of Commitment: School year – August through May

Program: The Academy

Opportunity: The Academy is an after school program designed to equip youth with the tools that will help them become leaders in their neighborhoods. Homework help is combined with enrichment activities.

Responsibilities: On-site mentors meet at designated site and assist youth with homework and enrichment activities.

Weekly Time Commitment: 2.5 hours or 5 hours per week, depending on volunteer’s availability

Opportunity: In School Mentoring is an on-site mentoring program, pairing volunteers with a small group of youth (up to five)  during school hours.

Responsibilities: On-site mentors meet at designated school and assist youth in developing leadership skills, coordinating service projects, and tutoring as needed.

Weekly Time Commitment: 1 hour weekly or biweekly, depending on site

Program:  High School Mentoring

Opportunity: High School Mentoring is a group mentoring program, pairing volunteers with a small group of high school students.

Responsibilities: On-site mentors assist high school students in college preparatory curriculum, financial aid research, as well as scholarship searches. Volunteers are welcome to chaperone college visits.

Weekly Time Commitment: 2 hours monthly / more if volunteer is interested in assisting a youth one-to one

Program: Fayette County Fatherhood Initiative

Opportunity: Volunteer Facilitator

Responsibilities: Lead responsible fatherhood or healthy relationship groups of 10-20 adults. FCFI   Facilitator training (3 hrs.) required. 

Weekly Time Commitment: 3-4 hours per week depending individual preparation needs.

Length of Commitment: 7-12 weeks depending on curriculum
