HAVE A HAND IN THE HEART OF THE CITY

THE WOODHILL NEIGHBORHOOD

One of Lexington’s most diverse and economically disadvantaged populations live in the Woodhill neighborhood. Most of Woodhill’s elementary age students attend Breckinridge Elementary where almost 80% of its students receive free or reduced lunches. This is significantly higher than the state average. Housing conditions and employment opportunities are ailing. Criminal activity and drug abuse are traps for neighborhood youth. Additionally, this area is home to an increasing refugee and immigrant population. There is a great need of strong programming and mentorship for the children youth and families in Woodhill neighborhood.

Our Call

Based on Isaiah 61:1-4, is to proclaim good news, bind up the broken hearted, release freedom and comfort to children youth and families in distressed neighborhoods like Woodhill. Our faith based approach to investing in their lives returns the promise of scripture that they will REBUILD, they will RESTORE and they will RENEW their community.

Our Goal

To give the kids of Woodhill a place they can call their own… A place where they can find hope… Where they can feel welcome and safe… Where they can realize their potential to GROW, SUCCEED, and to LEAD.

Our Vision

Together Lexington Leadership Foundation (LLF) and the MAP Foundation, seek to address many of the present needs in Woodhill through the building of a 20,000 square-foot facility which opened in May 2018. The Woodhill Community Center focuses on ACADEMICS, ARTS and ATHLETICS for the community’s urban children, youth and families expanding the number we serve with this permanent location.

THE WOODHILL COMMUNITY CENTER

ARTS

WCC provides creative opportunities for children and youth to experience the arts through on-site crafts with volunteers, partnerships with other groups like On the Move Art Studio, music through our recording studio and more. The facility has several multi-purpose rooms to run projects for all ages. Additionally, we will have programming throughout the year.

ACADEMICS

The center is a place where children and youth working in concert with caring volunteers, can work on homework completion, one-on-one reading in one of several classrooms, increase computer literacy and learn new skills like coding in the technology center, utilize the library for study and meet with mentors in the family room.

ATHLETICS

Our regulation sized gym and exercise areas of the center allows staff and volunteer supervised physical education opportunities for children and youth. LLF has conducted numerous camps and sports leagues over the years and has seen the positive impact athletics can have in the lives of youth and families.
