Have a hand in the heart of the city

“And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to their children,
and the heart of the children to their fathers.”
-Malachi 4:6

Why Woodhill?

The Lexington Leadership Foundation family is deeply concerned with the challenges the Woodhill community faces. A staggering 71% of children in Woodhill live below the poverty line, a rate that eclipses 98.6% of U.S. neighborhoods. Meanwhile, single mother households are a common sight, outnumbering 95% of U.S. neighborhoods. This economic strain manifests in other challenges too, like substance abuse disorders, which are twice as prevalent among adults living in poverty. Amid these statistics, Woodhill Community Center offers hope and unity for the 6,000+ neighborhood residents who collectively represent 30 nationalities speak 28 different languages.

The positive reality is, the Woodhill Neighborhood is a tapestry of diverse cultures, innovative ideas, and deeply rooted traditions. This rich diversity reflects the community's resiliency and vibrancy, making it a hub for cross-cultural dialogues and understanding. The Lexington Leadership Foundation sees immense potential here; as such, our investment in the neighborhood through the Woodhill Community Center is not just about supporting a structure or running programs, it's about empowering a platform that champions education, health, entrepreneurship, arts, athletics, and much more. The ripple effects of investments like these are profound, with tangible and intangible benefits permeating various aspects of community life that impacts the entire city.

Woodhill, with its inherent strengths and undeniable challenges, represents an opportunity to build on existing trust and infrastructure, driving a transformative impact. By doing so, we aim to rewrite the narrative for countless youth and families, ushering in a brighter, more prosperous future as we seek the shalom of the city we love.
