Connection and Growth: Fostering a Loving Community

Eating ice cream, time on the water, summer baseball games, swimming, barbecue, and kickball—these moments often evoke memories of hot summer days spent with loved ones. For the Amachi team, they symbolize Amachipalooza, our July series for mentors, mentees, and families. This year, we enjoyed ice cream at the community center, canoed the Kentucky River, attended a Legends game, hosted our first pool party, and capped it off with our annual Adults vs. Kids kickball game. While fun was certainly had, there was also deeper connection and growth.
With these events, the entire Amachi family comes together. Mentors connect with each other, and our young people engage with peers. These gatherings remind our children that they are not alone, but are supported by a caring community. We live out our foundational scripture, Psalm 68:5-6, which says, “God is a father to the fatherless... and puts the lonely in families.” At each event, caregivers bond, and our youth gain new skills, positive experiences, and the joy of being part of a loving community.
We extend heartfelt thanks to our partners who made these summer events possible: Lexington Legends, Acres of Hope, Canoe Kentucky, UK Football, Southland Christian Church, and Restoration Christian Church.
