Community Partner Shoutout: Craftsmen Contractors Invests in the Georgetown Street Neighborhood

At LLF, we unite leaders from various sectors—marketplace, government, schools, congregations, and nonprofits—to transform our city. This summer, one connection led to a powerful community partnership. Craftsmen Contractors, inspired by the vision at The Robert H. Williams Cultural Center, partnered with GAF Roofing to invest in the heart of the Douglass/Georgetown Street Neighborhood. Their generous contribution of essential roof materials and repairs marks the beginning of the center’s needed restoration and showcases the impact of collaborative action.
The RHW Cultural Center, supported by a board of dedicated community members, is driven by a vision to increase opportunities for youth in the neighborhood. With the roof repaired, the center is now better equipped to offer its weekend reading programs, providing a safe and enriching environment for local youth.
This investment by Craftsmen Contractors is a shining example of what can be achieved when businesses and community organizations come together with a shared purpose. It’s a step towards ensuring that the Robert H. Williams Cultural Center continues to be a place of learning, growth, and hope for the neighborhood, and a bright light to the community. The Robert H. Williams Cultural Center originally opened in 1894 by Mrs. E. Belle Mitchell Jackson as The Lexington Colored Orphans Industrial Home and was founded to provide spiritual nourishment, educational opportunity, and industrial job training to orphans in the Georgetown Street Neighborhood. With emerging renovation plans and a renewed vision to provide resources and opportunities to the neighborhood, the Robert H. Williams Cultural Center and its growing board is preparing to again provide hope and opportunity to the local community.
